Why Rest Should Be Part of Your Routine | Dublin Spa

By Buff Day

We’re very good at being busy in Ireland.

There’s always something to do. Work, errands, family, social plans, emails, the shopping, the washing, the list that somehow gets longer instead of shorter.

And when do we rest?

Usually when everything else is done.

The problem is, everything is rarely done.

That’s why rest shouldn’t have to be something you earn after getting through a long week. It deserves a place in your routine, just like work, exercise, meals and everything else that fills your diary.

Rest isn’t being lazy

There can be a funny guilt attached to doing nothing.

You sit down for half an hour and suddenly think, I should probably be doing something.

But rest isn’t laziness. Taking time to slow down can simply be a way of giving yourself a proper pause from the pace of everyday life.

And rest doesn’t have to mean spending an entire Sunday in bed either.

It might be:

  • Putting your phone away for 20 minutes
  • Going for a quiet walk around St Stephen’s Green
  • Having a cup of tea without scrolling at the same time
  • Reading a few pages before bed
  • Taking a long bath
  • Booking a massage
  • Enjoying a facial and some quiet time
  • Sitting somewhere peaceful and doing absolutely nothing for a while

Sometimes, doing less is exactly what we need.

Why waiting until you’re exhausted doesn’t work

Think about how we usually approach rest.

We push through a busy week, keep going when we’re tired, say yes to another commitment and tell ourselves we’ll slow down at the weekend.

Then Saturday arrives and there’s a list of jobs waiting.

Before you know it, Monday is around the corner again.

Making rest part of your routine means you don’t always have to wait until you’re completely worn out before you give yourself permission to pause.

It can be as simple as putting small moments of calm into your week.

Make rest realistic

A good wellness routine doesn’t need to be complicated.

You don’t need an hour-long meditation every morning or a perfectly organised self-care schedule.

Start small.

Could you take 15 minutes without your phone in the evening? Could you finish work and actually give yourself time to switch off before moving onto the next thing? Could you schedule one thing each week that you genuinely enjoy?

The important part is making it realistic enough that you’ll actually do it.

A spa treatment can be part of your downtime

Sometimes it’s difficult to properly switch off at home because there’s always something else catching your attention.

A spa visit gives you a reason to pause.

A massage can offer time away from the usual rush. A facial gives you an opportunity to focus on your skin while taking a little time for yourself. And having access to a sauna and a quiet space can make your visit feel like more than simply another appointment in your calendar.

At The Buff Day Spa in Dublin 2, we believe wellness can be about creating those small pockets of time where you don’t have to be anywhere else or do anything else.

Whether you’re coming in for a massage, facial, holistic treatment or a spa package, the idea is simple: give yourself permission to slow down.

Rest doesn’t need to be expensive

One of the best things about making rest part of your routine is that it doesn’t always have to involve booking anything.

You can create your own little reset at home.

Try putting your phone away, making a cup of tea, turning down the lights and giving yourself 20 quiet minutes.

Take a walk without listening to anything.

Sit in the garden.

Read a book.

Have an early night.

Or simply stop trying to fill every quiet moment.

Wellness isn’t always about adding more to your routine. Sometimes it’s about taking something away.

Put rest in your diary

Here’s a simple idea: schedule rest before your week gets busy.

Instead of saying, I’ll rest when I have time, actually make a little space for it.

Maybe it’s a quiet Sunday morning. A midweek walk. An evening without plans. Or a massage in Dublin after a particularly busy few weeks.

Treat that time with the same respect you’d give any other appointment.

Because if you only rest when everything else is finished, you might be waiting a very long time.

You don’t have to earn rest

Perhaps the biggest change is simply changing the way we think about rest.

You don’t have to finish your to-do list first.

You don’t have to have had a stressful week.

You don’t have to be completely exhausted.

And you certainly don’t have to feel guilty about it.

Rest can simply be part of looking after yourself.

So, this week, give yourself permission to pause.

Not because you’ve earned it.

Just because you need it.

And if you’re in Dublin 2 and fancy making a little more time for yourself, we’re always happy to welcome you to The Buff Day Spa for a massage, facial or a little quiet time away from the everyday rush.
