Review of Image Facial

In the urban streets of Dublin hides a little piece of heaven called The Buff Day Spa. Walking up the stairs of this unique Georgian style building in St Stephen’s Green I had a pleasant surprise when I walked through the spa door into complete tranquility.

I had booked a facial for today’s spa experience and I’m usually quite apprehensive to try any new products as my skin is very sensitive and reacts to most products. However my skin hasn’t been great lately, I’m turning 40 this year and getting more concerned about ageing plus the winter weather mixed with heated buildings has taken a toll in my usually clear skin.

“Today’s booking was an Image Facial – €95 (no pre-treating necessary 55 mins) A results driven facial designed to deep cleanse, hydrate and increase cell regeneration leaving smooth, glowing skin. Revitalize dry, dull, ageing skin with this Vitamin C enriched hydrating facial.”

Fiona was my therapist for my Image facial and she greeted me with a warm hand shake and comforting smile. I was invited to lay down and relax while Fiona did a cleanse on my skin before completing my skin consultation. Now as you can imagine, I’ve had many many facials over the years, but what I learned with Fiona today showed me the level the therapists are at in this spa. It’s been a while since I have experienced passion and knowledge and just a sincere interest in me, my skin and my spa experience.

The facial was out of this world. Every part of it felt cleansing, clearing and totally relaxing. The decolletage massage sent me in to snooze land for a while with the embarrassing little snorts that tend to happen between semi sleep to deep sleep as I stop myself going to the land of nod altogether.

Understanding your skin is important and I have been blessed over the years to have been surrounded by amazing therapists and Fiona is now in that club. She explained how my concerns with the redness in my skin comes from a lack of vitamin C and that if I treat myself inside out and outside in I will get much better results. This was a therapist who really wanted to help me maintain the amazing results I got from my facial today.

My eyes had been a little red and dry recently as well as a little redness in my cheeks and I definitely needed a good, deep cleanse. When I sat up from the treatment my skin looked flawless, it had not been this clear in a long time and I had not an ounce of make-up on. I was over the moon.

Fiona wrote down what she recommended for me to use. Knowing that I’m a busy working mum she understood I might not partake in all the skin care recommendations but she gave me the 3 essentials to get me started – vitamin C cleanser, serum and SPF moisturiser. Hopefully now people will think I’m tuning 30 this year not 40!! But at the very least I have my clear, flawless skin back again and I am determined to keep it going. Understanding that what I did in my 20s and 30s is not going to be what my skin needs in my 40s. I may still think and act like a 23 year old at times but I have to face up to the fact now my body needs more care and attention. It’s time to invest a little time and good quality product for me finally.
